TESTIMONIALS

Nelson Lopez

I was born and raised in the Philippines.  I emigrated to the United States of America in 1992 via immigration petition by my father, who served the US Army in World War II.  I’m married to Mary Lopez and we have three children, Hannah, Nicolas Ivan and Alyssa.

I was born and raised in the Philippines.  I emigrated to the United States of America in 1992 via immigration petition by my father, who served the US Army in World War II.  I’m married to Mary Lopez and we have three children, Hannah, Nicolas Ivan and Alyssa.

I spent the first thirty-two years of my life as a Catholic.  Although, I had heard the Gospel several times from cousins at an early age, from friends and my wife at a later age, and had responded to it several times, I did not have a genuine personal and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ until the night of May 31, 2004.  Before I went to bed that night, I realized that I could not save myself from my sin and that I was in need of a Savior who would deliver me from it.  I pleaded to God that night to pour out His grace upon me and the following morning everything was just bright; a brand new life was awaiting ahead of me that very first day of having Christ in my life.

I had a vision two years after that special day in the form of a dream in which I was preaching the Gospel in my own Tagalog language to old women in a church in Aurora, CO.

New Life Community Church in Aurora has fulfilled that vision in the work that has been entrusted to me by the Lord. New Life Community Church has graciously opened their doors for the Filipino people to meet and have a Bible study in their building.  They have also adopted us as their own ministry.

After conducting Bible studies for three years in this church, our group finally launched our Sunday Services on May 19, 2014.  I’m currently pastoring Revival Community Fellowship (formerly Filipino-American Christian Fellowship) ministry here at New Life.  I’m also a full-time employee of the State of Colorado.

The Gateway Curriculum has been a great blessing to me because it allows for people like me to continue to be equipped and be taught of the Word of God as I, in turn, pass it on to my fellow countrymen.

I am fully convinced that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6).

Nothing in my own merit has brought me here except the merits of Christ Jesus my Lord. To Him be the glory now and forever more!  #twentyyears

What Led Me to Baptism?
It was October 2024 when I experienced waking up early in the morning around 3am every night. I didn’t know the reason it kept happening so I ignored it. Until one night at the same time I woke up again but this time there was a knock on the door. I still ignored it but that morning I researched the meaning of what happened. From my research I found out that it was a spiritual calling from the Lord. The next night it happened again but instead of ignoring it I started to pray. After that occurrence I started reading the bible which was something I had never gotten deep into. While reading the bible I kept on learning about our Lord Jesus. Then one day while I was watching tv I saw a video about kids on Batasan Island in Tubigon Bohol and every time they had a high tide it would flood the whole island including the school. In that moment I heard a whisper in my ear “You need to go there”.

So I searched and reached out to teachers and local officials on how I can get there. After talking with them my first plan was to supply the kids their with school supplies but months passed and I felt like there was a missing piece in my plan. It came into my mind that I needed bibles and a pastor to include in my plan. So I contacted some friends to ask if they knew a pastor that could go with me and if there was anywhere I could buy bibles. I had no luck finding both. After months of reading the bible and learning about Jesus doubt crept in my mind while I was driving. I thought to myself “Is the knocks I have been experiencing even real”. Suddenly I heard a knock in the car. I turned and asked my son if he heard it. Then another knock came and I asked my son again. Did you hear that? He said yes and after one last knock happened. After that all my doubt was washed away and I continued my plan to go to Batasan Island. In my process of planning I felt true surrender to Jesus and wanted to get baptized again. I planned to get baptized in the Philippines when one day my wife caught up with an old friend Mary and planned a get together. June 2025 at the get together I a got chance to talk to Pastor Nelson and what I had experienced and asked him if I could go to church the next day. After 6 weeks of attending his church service I told Pastor Nelson about my plan of going to Batasan Island.

I mentioned my need for bibles and a pastor to come with me to the island. In September he confirmed that he could supply me with bibles and had found a pastor to come with me. Being in Pastor Nelsons group I experienced sincerity and humility and felt spiritual connection and strength. Then I decided to get baptized in October 2025 by pastor Nelson a week before I flew to the Philippines for the first mission trip.

My mission trip experience
On the day of my flight I prayed for our safety, to have a successful mission, and to send me to the right person who the Lord needed me to help. When we arrived in Cebu to meet pastor Paul it was a beautiful sunny day even though the weather had said it would be rainy with thunderstorms. Once we reached Tubigon we met up with the teacher and pastor Bob to pick up the school supplies, uniforms, and order food for the kids. We arrived to Batasan island the next day on boat with the teachers. We met pastor Lauro. We were welcomed and started the program with prayer led by Pastor Paul. We then distributed the supplies and uniforms we picked up. Then pastor Paul preached John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes through my father except through me.” The kids then played parlor games and then we gave them food for lunch. While the kids were eating their lunch I asked pastor Paul if after this we could visit some of the islands. Pastor Paul then passed the idea which eventually reached pastor Lauro who had a boat and offered to let us use it.

The next day in the morning we met up with Pastor Lauro and his wife Pastor Imelda. We went to an island named Mocaboc where pastor Lauro and pastor Imelda had a church. From there we cooked, ate, and sat down together. When we sat down each pastor told their story about how they started their church. When it got to pastor Imelda and pastor Lauro my heart was touched. They talked about how they traveled island to island and hour and a half each for 23 years to do church service. After hearing their testimony and I took alone time to swim at the beach. I prayed to the Lord and asked if these were the people he wanted me to help. In that moment I got my answer from the Lord. So I went back to group. Sat down and told pastor Imelda that I was inspired and amazed because of their dedication to serve the Lord. Then I told her that I wanted to be part of her church and support it. She started crying and said “For how many years I’ve been praying this to the lord that someone would come here and notice us and what we are doing and I think it is you”.

After that we exchanged information so that when I came back we could communicate. After getting back to our place I think back to all the experiences that have happened. The knocks, the doubt, meeting pastor Nelson, everything. It all was apart of God’s plan.  My true purpose was not only for the kids but to lead me to the main purpose. To meet pastor Imelda and Pastor Lauro.

This coming June 2026 we will have a mission trip to go to pastor Lauro and pastor Imelda’s churches in 3 islands at Tubigon, Bohol to give assistance and spread the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

All Glory To God and Thank You Lord For Entrusting Me This Mission. I Love You Lord Forever.

Our Mission

To reach the community by proclaiming the truths of God’s Word and establish a relationship that is intentional, and to go and make disciples of all nations, as Jesus commanded us in Matthew 28:19-20.
